DEBORAH COLVIN’s interest in life drawing happened while vacationing as a teen on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA. She took life drawing instruction at a small wharf side gallery in the town of Edgartown. This was inspiring and motivated her to pursue further studies.

Later, as a low level aerial navigator for a summer university job, she used topographical maps for navigating a team of spray planes over New Brunswick. These maps and special views of the landscape gave her a unique perspective later used in image making.

While sketching a mountain outside the window of the Banff School of Fine Art studio, some fellow artists complimented her on the figure she was drawing?! This comment initiated her ongoing interest in our innate connection with nature.

Deborah’s images connect the human form with landscape as a means to explore our human condition. She works in diverse media; drawing; print; photography; paint; collage; sculpture and recently digital drawings with composited photos.

Deborah holds a fine art degree from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Following this she went to the Banff School of Fine arts, Winter Artists Program in Alberta. She is a Life Member of the Society of Canadian Artists.

Originally from Ontario, Colvin now resides in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
